Despite all the PC nutrition information out there, there are actually certain foods that are great for weight loss! These are all HEALTHY foods that I include in my diet daily.

  1. High fibre foods

Fibre is so important for our digestive system health, it basically moves our food through our system so it doesn’t stay there longer than it needs to, it keeps us fuller for longer, and helps with regular bowel movements.

Some high fibre foods include;

Kiwifruit, apples, berries, oats, peas, beans, nuts, seeds, broccoli, corn, carrots, (plus most other fruits and vegetables!)

  1. High water content foods

Foods that have a high water content are often low in calories (because water = 0 calories), making these foods perfect for weight loss because we can be generous with portion sizes to fill us up (without consuming the excess calories)

Think about a grape vs. its dried format a raison, or a plum vs. its dried format a prune, you can likely eat a handful of dried fruits easily (and it doesn’t really fill you up) yet you probably wouldn’t eat several pieces of fresh fruit all at once because the fresh format fills you up much more (due to the higher water content)

High water content foods;

Fresh fruit and vegetables such as; berries, watermelon, apple, orange, celery, carrot, zucchini, cucumber, lettuce, capsicum, celery, cauliflower and soups.

  1. Low calorie but filling foods

Oats, eggs, fish, spinach, kale, mushrooms, berries, popcorn, chia seeds, lean meat, tofu, legumes and quinoa.

This is a similar concept as above; these foods are low in calories but will fill you up. Make some of these foods your stables for your weight loss diet.

At the end of the day, to loose weight, you need to be burning more calories than you are consuming (i.e. be in a calorie deficit) however, these foods are great options to ensure that if you are wanting to loose weight – that you are;

  1. Still consuming a healthy diet filled with nutrients
  2. Not starving yourself
  3. Can maintain your “weight loss diet” longer term
